The test cannot quantify the concentration of IgG/IgM antibodies to L. donovani or the rate of its change. This test only detects the presence of such antibodies in the sample and should not be used as the sole diagnostic criterion for visceral leishmaniasis.
A negative result may occur if the amount of antibodies to L. donovani is below the sensitivity threshold of the method or if there are no antibodies in the sample.
